102 Optimists turned up to Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron last week to compete in the Queensland Youth Week Regatta. There were 82 boats in the open fleet and 20 in the green fleet. 1st place went to Chris Charwood from WA, 2nd to James McLennan from Victoria and 3rd to Jim Colley from NSW. 1st female was Nia Jerwood from WA. Steven Bond from OziOpti was on site all week with 22 chartered boats, 9 other boats transported on the oversized trailer plus the well loved van filled with spare parts.
Following the regatta was a 3 day Australian Optimist Sailing Team training clinic giving members from all different states a chance to get together and spend some time on the water in a non-competitive atmosphere. The next event for the team is the IODA Asian Championships to be held in Singapore from 22nd-30th July. We wish them all good luck for the regatta!
